The Big ol' server poll (adapting to 1.2)


[EXPAND Click here to read the original post]Cheesius: After lots of testing and re-testing, I've figured out what options I'm gonna put on the table. There were some plugins that required far too much setup, some that were incompatible with other mods we are using, etc. So yes, there may be other options I could potentially have gone with - but these are the ones Ive decided to go with.

Also, just as an aside, I have come to the conclusion that what I'd prefer to do is site-to-site portals - fixed points that I would set up that go from point a to point b. The way-points (which is what I originally wanted to go with) upon testing them, really do seem to be too easy and magical, I don't actually like being able to instantly teleport from anywhere I happen to be, to any number of safe spots on the map. So that will be my vote, but I will of course go with whatever the majority votes for.

So let's begin! And we'll begin not with transportation, but the map itself. Should we start over with a fresh random seed? The current seed has been deemed as "bland" and we could create a new server map that uses a random seed, and then find new places all over again.




Cheesius: Should we supplement our existing train system with some form of instant transportation, such as point-to-point travel portals, way-point teleportation, etc? We are going to be adding a second world, which we will need some method to travel between both worlds. So I am asking, should we extend that system to the main world as well? We have a variety of choices, which I will list further down. We're keeping trains either way.I like trains.



Cheesius: What form should our transportation take?




Cheesius:And a separate but related question: Should we set up an emergency waypoint at the spawn point, allowing us to immediately teleport to the spawn point from wherever we are (lost in the mines? /spawn!)
